Most of us today have what seems like a million and one things to do. And in order to complete all of our daily tasks, we often need to create a schedule.

The problem with schedules, however, is that they quickly become unrealistic or hard to stick to, making them relatively useless. But this doesn’t have to be the case!

Schedules can actually be extremely helpful when made correctly and are a great way to ensure you stay on track. Keep reading for five tips on how to make a schedule and stick to it.

1. Focus On The Task At Hand

It’s so easy to get distracted while trying to complete a task. Especially with social media at our fingertips. And we get it because we’d also much rather watch cute cat videos than finish working on a project.

But it’s important to not slack off and to keep all of your attention on what you’re trying to accomplish. This doesn’t mean you can’t take breaks.

If you feel like you need a break to work your best then add that time into your schedule so that you know how much time you’re working with.

2. Realistic Deadlines

One of the easiest ways to not get everything done is by overwhelming yourself with too much at once. You’re not a superhero, and that’s okay!

So don’t make your schedule as if you are a robot plowing through tasks. This will only lead to your feeling disappointed in a missed deadline or getting too overloaded to even know where to start.

Be honest with yourself about how you work and set your deadlines accordingly.

3. Use Scheduling Resources

Everyone works differently, and figuring out how to track your schedule in the best way for you will help you stay on track.

For some, writing it out may seem like the best option. And for others using a schedule maker organizes their tasks in a neat and clean format that is easier to follow.

No matter what you decide to use, it’s important to keep all of your tasks organized in one place so that nothing gets left out.

4. Add-In Cushion Time

Things often take a little longer than expected. And even if your tasks run over by 10 minutes, if you don’t give yourself cushion time this can quickly throw your schedule out of whack.

Add in 10-15 minutes extra between each task to ensure you have a little wiggle room.

The best part about this is, if you don’t end up needing the extra time then you will always feel ahead of schedule.

5. Schedule Work And Play

No one wants to feel like every day is bogged down with a heavy to-do list. To avoid this, make sure to schedule in the off-time and to ensure you have a clear balance between work and play.

By adding your playtime into your schedule, this will also give you something to look forward to each time you glance to see what’s up next.
