3 Tips for Choosing a Authentic Watch

March 31, 2020 by Susan Paige

If you have always used your smartphone to check the time or just purchased a watch off the shelf at a discount store, you may not have any experience selecting a watch that fits your needs, style, and budget. These three tips can help you choose the watch that is right for you.

1. Most Important Feature

There are many different types of watches, and all of them are better suited to some purposes than others. If it is essential to you that your watch looks nice with a business suit, then you might want a dress watch. If you need a watch you can wear while working out, then you might prefer a sports watch or a smartwatch. If you spend a lot of time around the water, then a diver watch, such as the Seastrong diver manufactured by Alpina watches, might be a good choice.

2. Price

In an ideal world, the price would not be the main determinant, but it is still an important factor. Fortunately, there are watches to fit almost any budget, from models that cost only a few dollars, all the way up to luxury watches that cost thousands. If you have your heart set on a particular watch, but it doesn’t fit your budget, it can be a good idea to watch for sales. For example, many of Luminox watches on sale, are marked a hundred dollars or more down from their retail price.

3. Movements

There are three main types of watch movements. Mechanical watches must be wound by hand. Automatic watches wind themselves as you move. Quartz watches run off batteries and don’t require any winding.

The first two types have the benefit of not needing a battery, which means you never have to worry about your watch not working because the battery has gone dead. The automatic watch’s main benefit is that you don’t have to remember to wind it. As long as you are wearing it and moving around, then it will wind itself. However, if you want your automatic watch to still be functional after a long period of not being worn, you will need to use a watch winder. The Quartz watch avoids the chance that your watch will stop working because it didn’t get wound but requires you to purchase and replace the battery regularly.

Whatever your reason is for wanting to wear a watch, there is likely a style of watch out there to fit your needs. Keeping these three tips in mind can help you with your purchasing decision.
