Powerful Local Marketing Strategies For Your Small Business

The online world sometimes blinds us to basic facts when it comes to running a small business. One is that while the internet might not care about physical distances and state or international boundaries, most customers still do.

That makes sense when you’re ordering a pizza, but it applies equally to other products and services. Local marketing is something that no business can afford to ignore. What’s more, it is one area in which small businesses have the agility to outperform the global competition. For example, the likes of CNN and BBC have local news categories on their website, but try as they might, these never have the same level of authenticity as a genuine news site or blog for a town or community.

Engage with the community

It sounds obvious, but often, the most important things are the ones staring you in the face. Community engagement can take many forms, from running local events to sponsoring sport teams. The great thing about activities like these is they can be on as large or small a scale as you like.

For example, if you’re a small local agency and your budget for these activities is counted in the hundreds rather than thousands, then getting behind your local peewee team might fit the bill. At the other end of the scale, Unibet went into partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles when they opened their real money casino in Pennsylvania, creating branded blackjack games in team colors with a live dealer.

Use Google My Business

It’s another action that is so simple, yet studies continue to show that fewer than 50 percent of small businesses have claimed their Google My Business listing. If you are in the red-faced majority, sort that out before you throw money at anything.

Getting listed is free and it’s pretty straightforward. It will also get you listed on Google maps. Once your listing is up, set a reminder to check it every six months or so in case there’s anything you need to update. There are similar tools on other search engines that are worth doing too, including Bing Places.

Hold or contribute to a local event

Small Business Saturday has shown over the past few years how community spirit can be as powerful in business as in personal lives. Of course, it has taken something of a hit these past two years, but the 2022 event should be bigger and better than ever. It’s just one example of the sort of local event in which every business can get involved.

Tell your story

There are companies selling products and services all across the land. What makes yours so different? Business, schmisiness, as a wise lady once said, what makes your company stand out is its personality. Having a story is vital and fosters connections with clients that are not easily broken. This is especially important if you are from the same community and have some shared or common background.
