How to Deal With Nuisance Calls

by Susan Paigeon August 17, 2022 ~ Leave a Comment

Answering your phone only to be greeted by a robotic voice or pushy salesperson is incredibly annoying. Unfortunately, nuisance calls seem to be getting more and more common, which has caused some people to stop answering phone calls entirely. If you’re getting far too many nuisance calls, then keep reading to find out more about how to deal with this issue.

Check the number online

Whenever you get a call from an unknown number, you’re probably wondering if it’s a scam call, cold call, robocall, or actually a genuine call from a friend or business. If you’d rather not answer a call just in case it’s a scam or nuisance call, then you can check this phone number online by typing it into UnknownPhone.com. Once you search for a phone number, you’ll find out if it’s likely to be dangerous or a nuisance by looking at comments from others who’ve received calls from that number. If there are lots of negative comments about a particular number, it’s best to not call back and also ignore it in the future.

Ignore all unknown calls

Ignoring all phone calls from unknown numbers is an easy way to avoid nuisance calls, although you may also miss out on some genuine calls at the same time. To make sure you’re not missing calls from friends and family, you should always save people’s numbers on your phone with their full names. Additionally, you may be getting a call from your doctor, your dentist, or your child’s school, so to avoid missing these calls, you could write down a list of important phone numbers and stick it on your fridge. This will help you deal with nuisance calls without missing genuine calls you need to answer.

Block numbers

Ignoring all unknown numbers can be a bit risky, especially if you have an important appointment and you haven’t saved the organization’s phone number. Therefore, blocking numbers from known scammers and cold callers could be the better option, or it may be your only choice if a certain caller won’t leave you alone even after you ignore several calls.

With most mobile phones, there’s an easy way to block a number after you’ve received a call – you’ll usually have to click on an info button next to the number in your recent calls list and that’ll give you the option to block. If you can’t figure out how to block calls on your phone, all you have to do is look through the instructions or Google your phone brand and model.

National Do Not Call Registry

If you’re still getting frequent nuisance calls from salespeople despite blocking as many of them as possible, then perhaps it’s time to register your phone number for free with the National Do Not Call Registry. This registry allows you to request that telemarketers stop calling your phone number, and if you still get nuisance calls, you can report them to the FTC.

Nuisance calls are an issue for the vast majority of people, but there are ways you can fight back against them. Try out the ideas in this article to see if you can reduce the number of nuisance calls you receive.
